Discourse on Dispassion via the Nārada–Pañcacūḍā Dialogue
पञ्चचूडोवाच । कुलीना नाथवंत्यश्च रूपवंत्यश्च योषितः । मर्यादासु न तिष्ठंति स दोषः स्त्रीषु नारद
pañcacūḍovāca | kulīnā nāthavaṃtyaśca rūpavaṃtyaśca yoṣitaḥ | maryādāsu na tiṣṭhaṃti sa doṣaḥ strīṣu nārada
ಪಂಚಚೂಡನು ಹೇಳಿದರು—ಓ ನಾರದಾ! ಕುಲೀನಳೂ, ಪತಿರಕ್ಷಿತಳೂ, ರೂಪವತಿಯೂ ಆದ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯರೂ ಸಹ ಮર્યಾದೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಲ್ಲುವುದಿಲ್ಲ; ಇದು ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ದೋಷ.

The verse underscores the Shaiva ethical emphasis on maryādā (self-restraint and dharmic boundaries). In Shaiva Siddhanta, purification of conduct supports inner discipline, making the mind fit for devotion (bhakti) and knowledge that lead toward Shiva-realization.
While not directly describing Linga worship, it supports the moral foundation expected of a devotee approaching Saguna Shiva in ritual. Observing restraint and dharma is presented as supportive conduct for sincere puja and steadiness in devotion.
The implied practice is cultivation of self-control (saṃyama) alongside devotion—e.g., daily Shiva-smaraṇa, japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), and maintaining disciplined conduct as part of one’s vrata and worship life.
