Tattva Level: pashu
Significance: Frames human birth as the decisive opportunity for sādhana leading beyond svarga to apavarga (mokṣa); pilgrimage and worship are meaningful only when joined to earnest striving (samudyama).
It teaches that human birth is rare and meaningful only when used for purposeful sādhana—moving from dharmic living toward Shiva-realization and final release (apavarga) from bondage.
“Earnest striving” is fulfilled through steady devotion and discipline centered on Saguna Shiva—especially Linga worship—because focused upāsanā purifies the pashu (bound soul) and turns it toward Pati (Shiva) and liberation.
Regular Shiva-upāsanā with japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), along with purity disciplines such as applying Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and wearing rudrākṣa, embodies the “samudyama” (sustained effort) implied by the verse.
