caṃcukā puṃścalī duṣṭā gokarṇe dvijataḥ purā | śrutvā dharmakathāṃ śaṃbhorbhaktyā prāpa parāṃ gatim
Suta Goswami (narrating the puranic account to the sages, within the Uma Samhita discourse)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
It teaches that even one burdened by grave faults can attain the supreme goal by sincere bhakti to Śiva—especially through śravaṇa (devout listening) to Śiva-centered dharma-kathā, which purifies the bound soul (paśu) and loosens the bonds (pāśa).
The verse highlights devotion to Śambhu as the accessible, compassionate Lord (Saguna Śiva) whose grace is approached through hearing His teachings and glories—practices commonly performed in Śiva temples and liṅga-kṣetras like Gokarṇa.
Śiva-kathā-śravaṇa (listening to Shiva Purana narratives) with devotion is the direct takeaway; it is naturally supported by japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” and temple worship at a Śiva kṣetra.
