Pārvatī’s Vow of Truth and the Dialogue on Her Tapas
क्व च ढक्कामयः शब्दो गलनादः क्व चाशुभः । भवत्याश्च शिवस्यैव न युक्तं रूपमुत्तमम्
kva ca ḍhakkāmayaḥ śabdo galanādaḥ kva cāśubhaḥ | bhavatyāśca śivasyaiva na yuktaṃ rūpamuttamam
ಒಂದು ಕಡೆ ಢಕ್ಕಾ ವಾದ್ಯದ ಧ್ವನಿ, ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಕಡೆ ಈ ಕಠೋರ ಅಶುಭ ಗಲಗಲ—ಓ ಶಿವಾ, ನಿನ್ನ ಪರಮ ಮಂಗಳಮಯ ಉತ್ತಮ ಸ್ವರೂಪಕ್ಕೆ ಇಂತಹ ಅಮಂಗಳ ಸ್ವರ ಯುಕ್ತವಲ್ಲ।

The verse highlights that Śiva’s essential nature is śubha (auspicious) and liberating; therefore, anything perceived as ominous must be understood through right knowledge—often as a transformative sign rather than a contradiction in Śiva’s supreme purity.
In Saguna worship (including Liṅga-pūjā), devotees approach Śiva as the embodiment of auspiciousness who dissolves impurity (mala) and bondage (pāśa). The verse reinforces that Śiva’s manifest form and symbols ultimately lead the devotee from fear and inauspiciousness toward grace and liberation.
A practical takeaway is to counter perceptions of inauspiciousness with Śiva-smaraṇa: japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” wearing/meditating on Rudrākṣa, and applying Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) as reminders of Śiva’s purifying, fear-dissolving presence.
