Aftermath of Kāma’s Burning
Pārvatī’s Fear and Himavān’s Consolation
evaṃ kuru tapa sādhvi tapassādhyo maheśvaraḥ | tapasyeva phalaṃ sarvaiḥ prāpyate nānyathā kvacit
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
The verse declares tapas as the indispensable means of inner purification and steadiness by which the seeker becomes fit for Śiva’s grace—thus Mahādeva is “attained” through disciplined sādhanā rather than mere wish or worldly means.
Tapas supports Saguna Śiva-upāsanā—steady vrata, japa, and worship of the Liṅga—so the mind becomes one-pointed; through such sustained practice, devotion matures and the seeker approaches Śiva’s reality.
Adopt a tapas-oriented routine: a Śiva-vrata (fasting/discipline), daily Pañcākṣarī japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), and focused meditation on Śiva, performed consistently as an offering.
