और्ध्वदैहिकक्रिया-शोकविलापः
Obsequies for Daśaratha and the Brothers’ Lament
ब्राह्मणेभ्यो ददौ रत्नं धनमन्नं च पुष्कलम्।वासांसि च महार्हाणि रत्नानि विविधानि च।।।।
brāhmaṇebhyo dadau ratnaṃ dhanam annaṃ ca puṣkalam | vāsāṃsi ca mahārhāṇi ratnāni vividhāni ca ||
ಶ್ರಾದ್ಧಕರ್ಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಭರತನು ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರಿಗೆ ರತ್ನಗಳನ್ನು, ಧನವನ್ನು, ಸಮೃದ್ಧ ಅನ್ನಧಾನ್ಯವನ್ನು ದಾನಮಾಡಿದನು; ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಅತ್ಯಮೂಲ್ಯ ವಸ್ತ್ರಗಳನ್ನೂ ನಾನಾವಿಧ ಮಣಿರತ್ನಗಳನ್ನೂ ಸಮರ್ಪಿಸಿದನು.
You are a righteous and mighty king and without you, this earth would have been broken into pieces. But it does not.
Dharma here is expressed as śrāddha and dāna—honoring the departed through prescribed rites and supporting brahmins with generous gifts.
After Daśaratha’s death, Bharata performs the obsequial ceremonies and distributes ritual gifts as part of the funerary observances.
