पितृमरणश्रवणं जलक्रिया च

हयैरन्ये गजैरन्ये रथैरन्ये स्वलङ्कृतैः।सुकुमारा स्तथैवान्ये पद्भिरेव नरा ययुः।।।।
hayair anyē gajair anyē rathair anyē svalaṅkṛtaiḥ |
sukumārās tathaivānyē padbhir ēva narā yayuḥ ||
ಕೆಲವರು ಕುದುರೆಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ, ಕೆಲವರು ಆನೆಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ, ಕೆಲವರು ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿ ಅಲಂಕರಿಸಿದ ರಥಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋದರು; ಇನ್ನೂ ಕೆಲ ಸೌಕುಮಾರ ಯುವಕರು ಕಾಲ್ನಡಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಹೊರಟರು.
Some rode horses, some, elephants, while others mounted well-decorated chariots, while the young went on foot.

The crowd hastens toward the hermitage using whatever means are available, showing the scale of the moment.
