Viradha’s Challenge and the Clash in Dandaka
तस्याभिप्रायमाज्ञाय रामो लक्ष्मणमब्रवीत्।वहत्वयमलं तावत्पथाऽनेन तु राक्षसः।।3.3.23।।
tasyābhiprāyam ājñāya rāmo lakṣmaṇam abravīt | vahatv ayam alaṃ tāvat pathānena tu rākṣasaḥ || 3.3.23 ||
ರಾಕ್ಷಸನ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದು ರಾಮನು ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದನು: “ಈಗ ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕವಾಗಿ ಈ ರಾಕ್ಷಸನೇ ಈ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತುಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗಲಿ; ಅವನನ್ನು ತಡೆಯಬೇಡ.”
Questioned by the demon, who bore a burning countenance, the highly effulgent Rama introduced his Ikshvaku family:
Dharma is not rashness; it is disciplined action guided by discernment. Rāma restrains immediate retaliation, choosing a course that serves a larger righteous objective.
Virādha attempts to carry the brothers away; Rāma perceives his intent and instructs Lakṣmaṇa not to stop him immediately.
Rāma’s calm leadership and strategic patience (dhairya and viveka).
