Narratorial colophon (chapter-ending rubric)

Concept: Phala-śruti logic: completing the hearing/recitation of a tīrtha-māhātmya is itself a meritorious act; textual closure functions like a ritual seal (saṅkalpa-siddhi).

Application: Finish what you begin in sacred study: complete a chapter, conclude with a brief prayer, and dedicate the merit—closure strengthens saṁskāra.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Type: tirtha

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A palm-leaf manuscript lies open on a wooden lectern, the final ‘iti’ line glowing as if inscribed in light. A quiet tīrtha-ghāṭa scene fades behind it, suggesting that the story’s end is itself a sacred crossing from narrative into lived practice.","primary_figures":["scribe (lekhaka)","reciter (paurāṇika)","subtle presence of Viṣṇu’s symbols (śaṅkha-cakra)"],"setting":"Temple library (grantha-gṛha) adjoining a river/pond ghāṭa; oil lamps, inkpot, and rosary nearby.","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["lamp amber","aged parchment beige","ink black","deep maroon","bronze"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: ornate manuscript and lectern centered with gold leaf border; small śaṅkha-cakra motifs in corners; warm lamp-lit interior, rich reds and greens, embossed gold highlighting the final colophon line.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate scholar’s nook with delicate lamp glow; palm leaves and reed pen rendered with fine detail; a faint blue river outside the window; restrained palette and refined linework emphasizing quiet completion.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: stylized grantha-gṛha with bold outlines; lamp flames and manuscript lines as rhythmic patterns; traditional mural border designs framing the ‘iti’ closure.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: decorative border of lotuses and manuscript motifs; central panel shows an open text with golden syllables; symmetrical floral patterns suggesting kathā as offering."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"meditative","suggested_raga":"Durga","pace":"slow-meditative","voice_tone":"serene","sound_elements":["soft bell","page rustle","lamp crackle","silence"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: नवतितमोऽध्यायः → नवतितमः + अध्यायः (विसर्ग-सन्धि: ओऽ).

FAQs

It is a colophon: a formal chapter-ending line that identifies the text (Padma Purāṇa), section (Bhūmi-khaṇḍa), sub-narrative (Vena-upākhyāna), topical frame (Guru-tīrtha-māhātmya), and chapter title/number (Cyavana-caritra, chapter 90).

It indicates the immediate thematic unit: a “māhātmya” section praising a specific sacred place (tīrtha) named Guru-tīrtha; the Cyavana episode appears within that praise-context.

Directly, none—this line functions as a structural marker rather than a doctrinal statement; its value is archival, helping readers locate and cite the Cyavana narrative within the Bhūmi-khaṇḍa.
