इति श्रीमार्कण्डेयपुराणे दुः सहोत्पत्तिसमापनं नामैकपञ्चाशौऽध्यायः द्विपञ्चाशोऽध्यायः—

मार्कण्डेय उवाच ।

इत्येष तामसः सर्गो ब्रह्मणोऽव्यक्तजन्मनः ।

रुद्रसर्गं प्रवक्ष्यामि तन्मे निगदतः शृणु ॥

rudrasargaṃ pravakṣyāmi tan me nigadataḥ śṛṇu

ಇಂತೆ ಶ್ರೀಮಾರ್ಕಂಡೇಯಪುರಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ‘ದುಃಸಹೋತ್ಪತ್ತಿನಿಗಮನ’ ಎಂಬ ಐವತ್ತೊಂದನೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯವು ಸಮಾಪ್ತವಾಯಿತು. ಮಾರ್ಕಂಡೇಯನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಅವ್ಯಕ್ತದಿಂದ ಜನಿಸಿದ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನ ಈ ತಾಮಸ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿ ಮುಗಿಯಿತು; ಈಗ ನಾನು ರುದ್ರಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ವರ್ಣಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ, ನನ್ನ ವಚನವನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿರಿ।
