Virāṭa-parva Adhyāya 25: Kaurava Deliberation and the Search Directive (अन्वेषण-आदेशः)
गुप्तचर बोले--नरेन्द्र! हमने उस विशाल वनमें पाण्डवोंकी खोजके लिये सदा महान् प्रयत्न जारी रखा है ।।
vaśiṣṭha uvāca—narēndra! vayaṁ tasmin vipule vane pāṇḍavānāṁ mārgaṇāya satataṁ mahān prayatnaṁ pravartitavantaḥ. nirjane mṛgasaṁkīrṇe nānādruma-latākule, latāpratāna-bahule nānāgulma-samāvṛte vane vicaran, tatra tatra nānāprakāraiḥ teṣāṁ padacihnāni mṛgayāmāsa; tathāpi te sudṛḍha-parākramāḥ kuntīkumārāḥ kena mārgeṇa kva gatāḥ—na vijñātam asmābhiḥ.
ಗೂಢಚಾರರು ಹೇಳಿದರು—“ಓ ನರೇಂದ್ರ! ಆ ವಿಶಾಲ ಅರಣ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಂಡವರನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಲು ನಾವು ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಮಹಾ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡಿದೆವು. ಅದು ನಿರ್ಜನ, ಮೃಗಗಳಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದ ಅರಣ್ಯ; ನಾನಾವಿಧ ವೃಕ್ಷ-ಲತಗಳಿಂದ ದಟ್ಟ, ಹರಡಿದ ಬಳ್ಳಿಗಳಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿ, ವಿವಿಧ ಪೊದೆಗಳಿಂದ ಆವೃತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಅದರ ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲೆದು ಅನೇಕ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಪಾದಚಿಹ್ನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಿದರೂ, ಆ ದೃಢವಿಕ್ರಮಿಗಳಾದ ಕುಂತೀಪುತ್ರರು ಯಾವ ಮಾರ್ಗದಿಂದ ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋದರು—ಅದು ನಮಗೆ ತಿಳಿಯಲಿಲ್ಲ.”
