ब्राह्मणानुयात्रा—शौनकोपदेशः
Brāhmaṇas Follow into Exile and Śaunaka’s Instruction
हियते बुध्यमानो5पि नरो हारिभिरिन्द्रियै: । विमूढसंज्ञो दुष्टाश्वैरुदभ्रान्तैरिव सारथि:,समझदार मनुष्य भी मनको हर लेनेवाली इन्द्रियोंद्रारा विषयोंकी ओर खींच लिया जाता है। उस समय उसकी विचारशक्ति मोहित हो जाती है। जैसे दुष्ट घोड़े वशमें न होनेपर सारथिको कुमार्गमें घसीट ले जाते हैं, यही दशा उस अजितेन्द्रिय पुरुषकी भी होती है
hriyate budhyamāno 'pi naro hāribhir indriyaiḥ | vimūḍha-saṃjño duṣṭāśvair udabhrāntair iva sārathiḥ ||
ವಿವೇಕಿಯಾದ ಮನುಷ್ಯನೂ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಕಸಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳ ಬಲದಿಂದ ವಿಷಯಭೋಗಗಳ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಎಳೆಯಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಆ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನ ಚೇತನ ಮರುಳಾಗುತ್ತದೆ—ವಶವಾಗದ ದುಷ್ಟ ಕುದುರೆಗಳು ಸಾರಥಿಯನ್ನು ಸನ್ಮಾರ್ಗದಿಂದ ಎಳೆದು ಕುಮಾರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ಯುವಂತೆ. ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಜಯವಿಲ್ಲದವನ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯೂ ಇದೇ.
