कूटशाल्मलिकं चापि दुःस्पर्श तीक्ष्णकण्टकम्‌ । ददर्श चापि कौन्तेयो यातना: पापकर्मिणाम्‌

Transliteration

kūṭaśālmalikaṃ cāpi duḥsparśa-tīkṣṇa-kaṇṭakam | dadarśa cāpi kaunteyo yātanāḥ pāpa-karmiṇām ||

Translation

ವೈಶಂಪಾಯನನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಕೌಂತೇಯನು ಕೂಟ-ಶಾಲ್ಮಲಿ ಮರಗಳನ್ನೂ ಕಂಡನು; ಅವು ಸ್ಪರ್ಶಿಸಲು ಕಷ್ಟವಾಗುವಷ್ಟು, ತೀಕ್ಷ್ಣ ಮುಳ್ಳುಗಳಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದ್ದವು. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಪಾಪಕರ್ಮಿಗಳಿಗೆ ವಿಧಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಕಠೋರ ಯಾತನೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ಅವನು ಕಂಡನು.
