Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
भरतं चैव दौष्यन्तिं मृतं संजय शुश्रुम । शाकुन्तलं महात्मानं भूरिद्रविणसंचयम्,'सूंजय! दुष्यन्त और शकुन्तलाके पुत्र महाधनी महामनस्वी भरत भी मृत्युके अधीन हो गये, यह हमने सुना था
bharataṃ caiva dauṣyantiṃ mṛtaṃ sañjaya śuśruma | śākuntalaṃ mahātmānaṃ bhūridraviṇasañcayam ||
ವಾಯು ಹೇಳಿದರು— “ಓ ಸಂಜಯ, ದುಷ್ಯಂತ ಮತ್ತು ಶಕುಂತಲೆಯ ಪುತ್ರನಾದ, ಮಹಾತ್ಮನೂ ಅಪಾರ ಧನಸಂಚಯಕನಾದ ಭರತನು ಕೂಡ ಮರಣದ ಅಧೀನನಾದನೆಂದು ನಾವು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದೇವೆ।”
वायुदेव उवाच
Even the greatest kings—noble in character and rich in possessions—cannot escape death; therefore one should not rely on wealth or status as lasting supports, but cultivate dharma and inner detachment.
Vāyu addresses Sañjaya and cites Bharata’s death as an example: despite being the illustrious son of Duṣyanta and Śakuntalā, renowned for greatness and wealth, he too became subject to mortality.
