प्रहरिष्यन् प्रियं ब्रूयात् प्रहत्यैव प्रियोत्तरम् । असिनापि शिरश्छित्त्वा शोचेत च रुदेत च
praharīṣyan priyaṁ brūyāt prahatyaiva priyottaram | asināpi śiraś chittvā śocet ca rudet ca |
ಭೀಷ್ಮನು ಬೋಧಿಸಿದನು—ಪ್ರಹಾರ ಮಾಡಲು ಸಿದ್ಧನಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಮಧುರವಾದ, ಪ್ರಿಯವಾದ ಮಾತನ್ನೇ ಹೇಳಬೇಕು; ಪ್ರಹಾರ ಮಾಡಿದ ಬಳಿಕವೂ ಪ್ರಿಯವಾಣಿಯಿಂದಲೇ ಉತ್ತರಿಸಬೇಕು. ಕತ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಶತ್ರುವಿನ ತಲೆಯನ್ನು ಕತ್ತರಿಸಿದರೂ ಆ ಜೀವಕ್ಕೆ ಶೋಕಿಸಿ ಅಳಬೇಕು.
