Balarāma’s Pilgrimage Context
तत् स्थानमनुसम्प्राप्तमन्वपश्यत देवल: । वहाँसे अग्निष्टोमयाजी तथा अग्निष्ट्त् यज्ञके द्वारा यज्ञ करनेवाले तपोधनोंके लोकमें पहुँचे हुए जैगीषव्यको देवल मुनिने देखा
tat sthānam anusamprāptam anvapaśyata devalaḥ |
ವೈಶಂಪಾಯನನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಆ ಸ್ಥಳವನ್ನು ತಲುಪಿದ ದೇವಲಮುನಿಯು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಜೈಗೀಷವ್ಯನನ್ನು ಕಂಡನು; ಅವನು ಅಗ್ನಿಷ್ಟೋಮ ಯಾಗ ಹಾಗೂ ಅಗ್ನಿಷ್ಟುತಾದಿ ಅಗ್ನಿಯಾಗಗಳನ್ನು ನೆರವೇರಿಸಿ ತಪೋಧನರ ಲೋಕವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದನು.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The passage highlights a dharmic valuation of disciplined sacrifice and austerity: properly performed Vedic rites (like Agniṣṭoma) and tapas are depicted as generating spiritual merit that leads to higher states or realms.
The narrator reports that the sage Devala arrives at a particular region and there sees the sage Jaigiṣavya, who is described (in the accompanying gloss) as having reached the ascetics’ world through sacrificial performance such as the Agniṣṭoma.
