Legitimate authority and martial leadership are portrayed as grounded in sacred sanction: Skanda’s role as commander is affirmed through abhiṣeka at a tīrtha by the gods, linking power with responsibility to uphold cosmic order.
Vaiśampāyana reports that at a particular sacred place (tīrtha), Skanda—renowned as the destroyer of Daitya forces—was ritually anointed by the gods and installed as their army-commander (devasenāpati).
