Educational Q&A

Power or exceptional capability gained through a boon should culminate in rājadharma—protecting and sustaining the kingdom. The verse links acquisition (prāpti) with obligation (pālana): receiving a boon is not an end in itself but a basis for responsible rule.

Vaiśampāyana reports that Jarāsandha followed Kauśika’s directions, received the boon completely, and then proceeded to safeguard and administer his realm—marking a transition from gaining divine/ascetic favor to exercising kingship.
