तदनन्तर अस्त्रसमूहोंके प्रहारसे भरा हुआ वह युद्धस्थल ऐसा प्रतीत होने लगा, मानो वहाँ किरणोंका जाल बिछ गया हो। कर्ण और अर्जुनने अपने बाणसमूहोंकी वर्षासे आकाशमें तिलभर भी अवकाश नहीं रहने दिया ।। तद् बाणजालैकमयं महान्तं सर्वेडत्रसन् कुरव: सोमकाश्न | नान्यत् किंचिद् ददृशु: सम्पतद् वै बाणान्धकारे तुमुलेडतिमात्रम्,वहाँ बाणोंका एक महाजाल-सा बना हुआ देखकर कौरव और सोमक सभी भयसे थर्रा उठे। उस अत्यन्त घोर बाणान्धकारमें उन्हें दूसरा कुछ भी गिरता नहीं दिखायी देता था
tad-anantaraṃ bāṇa-jālaika-mayaṃ mahāntaṃ sarve 'drasan kuravaḥ somakāś ca | nānyat kiṃcid dadṛśuḥ sampatad vai bāṇāndhakāre tumule 'timātram ||
ಅನಂತರ ಅಸ್ತ್ರಸಮೂಹಗಳ ಪ್ರಹಾರಗಳಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದ ಆ ಯುದ್ಧಭೂಮಿ, ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಕಿರಣಜಾಲ ಹರಡಿದಂತೆ ಕಾಣಿತು. ಕರ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ಅರ್ಜುನರು ಶರವೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ಆಕಾಶದಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಲಮಾತ್ರವೂ ಖಾಲಿ ಬಿಡಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಬಾಣಗಳ ಒಂದು ಮಹಾಜಾಲವೇ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣವಾದುದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಕುರುವರೂ ಸೋಮಕರೂ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಭಯದಿಂದ ನಡುಗಿದರು. ಆ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಘೋರ, ತುಮುಲ ಬಾಣಾಂಧಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಬೇರೆ ಯಾವುದೂ ಬೀಳುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಕಾಣಲಿಲ್ಲ.
