Yudhiṣṭhira’s Charge to Sātyaki amid Droṇa’s Onslaught
Vāyudeva uvāca: sāmareṣv api lokeṣu sarveṣu na tathāvidhaḥ | śarāsanadharaḥ kaścid yathā Pārtho Dhanañjayaḥ ||
The verse presents exemplary mastery as something rare and universally recognizable: Arjuna’s excellence is affirmed not merely by human opinion but by divine testimony. Ethically, it suggests that in righteous conflict, disciplined skill and steadfast purpose are virtues that uphold kṣatriya-dharma.
Vāyudeva speaks to a king (addressed as ‘rājan’ in the received Hindi gloss), declaring that across all realms there is no archer comparable to Arjuna (Pārtha Dhanañjaya). It functions as a laudatory assertion of Arjuna’s unmatched prowess amid the events of the Droṇa Parva.
