Educational Q&A

The verse highlights that access to the divine is linked with tapas—steadfast discipline, restraint, and devotion. In the Mahabharata’s ethical frame, power for righteous action is not merely seized; it is earned through inner purification and reverent approach.

Sanjaya narrates that Arjuna reaches a mountain and, on its summit, sees the great ascetic Lord Vṛṣabhadhvaja (Śiva) standing there. This marks a pivotal moment of divine encounter preceding the gaining of extraordinary aid for the larger war effort.
