The verse urges steadfast courage grounded in dharma: for a warrior like Arjuna, it is unfitting to succumb to fear, especially when supported by loyal kin and allies. Ethical emphasis falls on self-mastery, resolve, and acting according to one’s rightful duty rather than being driven by anxiety.
Sañjaya addresses Arjuna directly, reminding him of their brotherly bond and Arjuna’s renowned valor. He counsels Arjuna not to fear Droṇa’s son Aśvatthāman, framing fear as inappropriate for a hero of such prowess in the midst of the Kurukṣetra conflict.
