Even amid conflict, the highest refuge is inner discipline: by yoga one gathers the mind, becomes inwardly luminous, and fixes devotion on the Supreme Person (Viṣṇu). The verse presents spiritual composure and God-centered remembrance as the ethical culmination beyond hatred and attachment.
After making a prior statement, the ascetic figure described by Sañjaya enters yogic concentration. He becomes ‘luminous’—signifying heightened spiritual realization—and mentally turns to the Supreme, meditating on Viṣṇu as the primeval cosmic Person.
