Even amid war, true excellence and righteous alignment—here symbolized by Arjuna’s prowess supported by Vāsudeva—can evoke involuntary respect. The verse highlights the moral psychology of the battlefield: extraordinary, dharma-aligned action compels recognition beyond factional loyalties.
After witnessing a remarkable feat or turn of events, the assembled forces on both sides are struck with amazement and openly praise Kṛṣṇa (as Vāsudeva) and Arjuna (as Bībhatsu), acknowledging Arjuna as a mahāratha.
