Educational Q&A

The verse foregrounds the kṣatriya ideal of decisive courage and command responsibility: a warrior who breaks into enemy ranks must act with clarity and resolve, directing his charioteer and sustaining momentum. It also hints at how war rewards extraordinary feats, intensifying the cycle of violence and competitive honor.

Sañjaya reports that the hero (contextually Sātyaki) has penetrated Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s forces, defeated them, and orders his charioteer to drive forward. Observers then behold an unprecedented battlefield exploit, setting up the next reactions and countermeasures.
