सूत उवाच
Even amid war, actions are framed through roles and obligations: the preceptor (Droṇa) embodies martial authority and strategy, while the disciple-warrior (Arjuna) responds within kṣatriya-dharma. The verse highlights accountability in action—battle is not mere violence but a contest of duty, skill, and chosen course (mārga).
The narrator (Sūta) announces that he will indicate, in the ongoing battle, the course or track of action—associated with the great-souled Arjuna (noted by the epithet ‘white-horsed’)—and how it relates to what the Teacher, Droṇa, has undertaken on the field.
