Adhyāya 6: Pañca-mahābhūta–guṇa-nirdeśa and Sudarśana-dvīpa
Five Elements, Sensory Qualities, and a Cosmographic Island
तया ह्युत्पादित: पुण्य: स हद: सागरोपम: । तां धारयामास तदा दुर्धरां पर्वतैरपि
tayā hy utpāditaḥ puṇyaḥ sa hradaḥ sāgaropamaḥ | tāṃ dhārayāmāsa tadā durdharāṃ parvatair api ||
ಸಂಜಯನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಅವಳಿಂದಲೇ ಸಾಗರದಂತೆ ವಿಶಾಲವಾದ ಪುಣ್ಯ ಹ್ರದವು ಉಂಟಾಯಿತು. ನಂತರ ಅವನು ಆ ದುರ್ಧರ ಬಲವನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಿಸಿದನು—ಅದನ್ನು ಪರ್ವತಗಳಿಗೂ ಧರಿಸುವುದು ಕಷ್ಟ.
संजय उवाच
Meritorious or sacred actions can generate immense potency; dharma then requires the capacity to sustain, restrain, and responsibly uphold what one has brought forth—strength measured not only by creation but by containment and steadiness.
Sañjaya describes the arising of a holy, ocean-like lake through a woman’s agency, and then notes that a male figure (implied by the verb) manages to bear/contain a tremendously difficult force—so heavy that even mountains would struggle to hold it.
