The verse highlights the harsh ethical tension of dharma in war: even illustrious kings and renowned warriors become targets when one is bound to fight for one’s side. It points to the impersonal, consequence-driven nature of battle, where valor and duty propel actions that cause suffering.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Bhīmasena, fighting for the Pāṇḍavas, individually strikes and wounds many shining kings, leading warriors, and Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s own great chariot-fighter sons on the battlefield.
