इस प्रकार श्रीमह्याभारत अनुशासनपर्वके अन्तर्गत दानधर्मपर्वमें श्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मणोंकी प्रशंशाविषयक आठवाँ अध्याय पूरा हुआ

Transliteration

anenaivodāharantīmam itihāsaṁ purātanam | śṛgālasya ca saṁvādaṁ vānarasya ca bhārata || bhārata! asmin viṣaye vijñāḥ puruṣāḥ śṛgāla-vānara-saṁvāda-rūpaṁ prācīnam itihāsam udāharanti |

Translation

ಭೀಷ್ಮನು ಹೇಳಿದನು— ಓ ಭಾರತನೇ! ಇದೇ ಸಂಬಂಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಂಡಿತರು ಒಂದು ಪುರಾತನ ಇತಿಹಾಸವನ್ನು ಉದಾಹರಣೆಯಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ— ಶೃಗಾಲ ಮತ್ತು ವಾನರನ ಸಂವಾದವನ್ನು. ಈ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಅವರು ಆ ಹಳೆಯ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಅವರ ಮಾತುಕತೆಯ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ವರ್ಣಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
