Viṣṇu-sahasranāma—Yudhiṣṭhira’s Inquiry and Bhīṣma’s Recitation (विष्णोर्नामसहस्रम्)
तस्मात्तु कपिला देया कौमुद्रां ज्येष्ठपुष्करे । ब्रह्म हत्याके समान जो कोई पाप होता है
tasmāttu kapilā deyā kaumudrāṁ jyeṣṭha-puṣkare |
ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಕಾರ್ತಿಕ ಪೂರ್ಣಿಮೆಯಂದು ಜ್ಯೇಷ್ಠಪುಷ್ಕರದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೌಮುದ್ರವರ್ಣದ ಕಪಿಲಾ ಹಸುವನ್ನು ದಾನ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು. ಈ ಒಂದೇ ಕಪಿಲಾದಾನವು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಹತ್ಯೆಗೆ ಸಮಾನವಾದ ಮಹಾಪಾಪವನ್ನೂ ಶುದ್ಧಿಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರವು ಬೋಧಿಸುತ್ತದೆ; ಈ ಒಂದೇ ಗೋদানವು ನೂರು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಗೋದಾನಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಮಾನವಾದ ಪುಣ್ಯಫಲವೆಂದು ಘೋಷಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಜ್ಯೇಷ್ಠಪುಷ್ಕರ ತೀರ್ಥದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ತಿಕ ಪೂರ್ಣಿಮೆಗೆ ಕಪಿಲಾ ಗೋವನ್ನು ಅವಶ್ಯವಾಗಿ ದಾನ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು.
