विश्वामित्र उवाच श्रूयतां परम गुह्ां रहस्यं धर्मसंहितम् । परमान्नेन यो दद्यात् पितृणामौपहारिकम्
viśvāmitra uvāca śrūyatāṃ parama-guhyaṃ rahasyaṃ dharma-saṃhitam | paramānnena yo dadyāt pitṝṇām aupahārikam ||
ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರನು ಹೇಳಿದನು— ಕೇಳಿರಿ, ಧರ್ಮಸಂಹಿತವಾದ ಈ ಪರಮ ಗುಹ್ಯ ರಹಸ್ಯವನ್ನು. ಯಾರು ಪಿತೃಗಳ ನಿಮಿತ್ತ ಉಪಹಾರರೂಪವಾಗಿ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಅನ್ನವನ್ನು ದಾನಮಾಡುವನೋ, ಆ ದಾನದ ಫಲವು ಅತಿಶಯ ಮಹತ್ತೆಂದು ಘೋಷಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.
