पिण्डदास्तस्य हीयन्ते न च प्रीणाति वै पितृन् । धर्मने कहा--ब्राह्मण यदि राजाका कर्मचारी हो
piṇḍadās tasya hīyante na ca prīṇāti vai pitṝn |
ಧರ್ಮನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಇಂತಹ ಅಪಾತ್ರರಿಗೆ ಪಿಂಡದಾನ ಮಾಡುವವನ ಪುಣ್ಯ ಕ್ಷೀಣಿಸುತ್ತದೆ; ಪಿತೃಗಳೂ ತೃಪ್ತರಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣನು ರಾಜಸೇವಕನಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ, ವೇತನ ಪಡೆದು ಗಂಟೆ ಬಾರಿಸುವ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೂ, ಪರಸೇವಕನಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ, ಗೋರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಅಥವಾ ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯವನ್ನು ಜೀವನೋಪಾಯವಾಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರೂ, ಶಿಲ್ಪಿ ಅಥವಾ ನಟನಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ, ಮಿತ್ರದ್ರೋಹಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ, ವೇದಾಧ್ಯಯನ ಮಾಡದವನಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ, ಅಥವಾ ಶೂದ್ರಜಾತಿಯ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯ ಪತಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ—ಅಂತಹವರಿಗೆ ಯಾವ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ದೇವಕಾರ್ಯ (ಯಜ್ಞ) ಮತ್ತು ಪಿತೃಕಾರ್ಯ (ಶ್ರಾದ್ಧ) ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಅನ್ನಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಡಬಾರದು. ಅವರಿಗೆ ಪಿಂಡವೋ ಅನ್ನವೋ ಕೊಡುವವರಿಗೆ ಅವನತಿ ಸಂಭವಿಸುತ್ತದೆ; ಅವರ ಪಿತೃಗಳಿಗೂ ತೃಪ್ತಿ ಉಂಟಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
