Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
धनं धान्यं प्रियान् दारान् यानं वासस्तथादभुतम् । श्रियं दृष्टवा मनुष्याणामसूयामि निरर्थकम्
dhanaṁ dhānyaṁ priyān dārān yānaṁ vāsas tathādbhūtam | śriyaṁ dṛṣṭvā manuṣyāṇām asūyāmi nirarthakam ||
ಇತರರ ಧನ-ಧಾನ್ಯ, ಪ್ರಿಯ ಪತ್ನಿಯರು, ಉತ್ತಮ ವಾಹನಗಳು, ಅದ್ಭುತ ವಸ್ತ್ರಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಮೃದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ನಾನು ಯಾವುದೇ ನಿಜವಾದ ಕಾರಣವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಅವರ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಸೂಯೆಯಿಂದ ಉರಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆನು।
