ಚಂದ್ರನು ಮುಕ್ತನಾಗಿ (ಉದಯಿಸಿ) ಇದ್ದರೆ, ‘ಮಹಾನಿಶಾ’ ಎಂಬ ನಿಯತ ಉಪವಾಸರಾತ್ರಿ ಅಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ಭೋಜನ ಮಾಡಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ ಸೂರ್ಯ‑ಚಂದ್ರ ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ಉದಯಿಸದೇ ಇದ್ದರೂ ಅಥವಾ ಅಸ್ತಂಗತರಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ, ಮುಂದಿನ ದಿನ ಅವರನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ನಂತರವೇ ಭೋಜನ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು.
