Viśveśvara-māhātmya and the Nirguṇa–Saguṇa Emergence of Śiva (Śakti–Puruṣa/Prakṛti Discourse)

Prakriti and Purusha (addressing Lord Shiva)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Role: teaching
Cosmic Event: pre-creation uncertainty: lack of ‘sthala’ (support) before ordered space is manifested
It shows that even cosmic principles like Prakṛti and Puruṣa require Śiva’s directive (Pati) to orient their tapas; true spiritual practice is effective when aligned with the Lord’s will and grace, not merely personal effort.
By asking for a “place” for tapas, the verse points to the need for a divinely appointed locus of worship—often expressed in the Purāṇa through sacred seats and Jyotirliṅgas—where Saguna Śiva is approached through disciplined devotion and ritual focus.
The takeaway is surrenderful tapas: remain where Śiva instructs and practice steady discipline—such as japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), worship of the Liṅga, and contemplative restraint—done in obedience to Śiva’s ājñā.
