Pavamāna Soma’s purifying flow as the power that yields abundance and secures the rite
Soma Pavamāna
Bright forward-driving and auspicious—evoking swift flow and increasing potency
The dashati draws from the broader Pavamāna hymn tradition (RV Soma corpus). Without explicit RV concordance for each mantra here a single rishi-family attribution cannot be stated with certainty.
Soma pressing and purification through the pavitra (filter) during Soma-yajña; the verses accompany the flowing/strained Soma and its offering.
Mantra 1
प्र ते धारा असश्चतो दिवो न यन्ति वृष्टयः अच्छा वाजं सहस्रिणम्
Forth go thy unfailing streams, like rains from heaven, unto abundant strength, a thousandfold prize.
Mantra 2
अभि प्रियाणि काव्या विश्वा चक्षाणो अर्षति हरिस्तुञ्जान आयुधा
The tawny Soma, beholding all the acceptable and priestly acts, flows onward towards them, urged on with the implements (of the rite).
Mantra 3
स मर्मृजान आयुभिरिभो राजेव सुव्रतः श्येनो न वंसु षीदति
He, the mighty Soma, being purified, endowed with vital energies, like a king of good ordinance, hawk-like, settles upon his resting-place.
Mantra 4
स नो विश्वा दिवो वसूतो पृथिव्या अधि पुनान इन्दवा भर
May he, the purified Soma, bring unto us all the riches of heaven, and also those of earth.
It praises purified Soma as he flows in strong streams toward the sacrifice, bringing abundance and making the ritual effective.
Agni complements Soma by removing obstacles—described as breaking ‘fortresses’—so the offering and its benefits can reach their goal without hindrance.
They are primarily ritual tools—pressing stones, the strainer (pavitra), and related actions—spoken of poetically as ‘weapons’ that drive Soma’s purification and power.
