Liberation is portrayed as steady abidance in nirguṇa Brahman—beyond qualities and all identifying marks. The ‘smokeless fire’ image conveys purity and unobstructed luminosity: when ignorance and attachment are absent, consciousness shines clearly.
Bhīṣma describes a person (previously under discussion in the chapter) attaining final establishment in Brahman. The attainment is depicted not as a physical journey but as a spiritual consummation—resting in the eternal, markless reality, with radiant clarity.
