विभज्य दण्डं रक्ष्यास्तु धर्मतो न यदृच्छया । दुर्वाचा निग्रहो दण्डो हिरण्यबहुलस्तथा
bhīṣma uvāca |
vibhajya daṇḍaṁ rakṣyāstu dharmato na yadṛcchayā |
durvācā nigraho daṇḍo hiraṇyabahulastathā ||
ភីෂ្មៈបាននិយាយថា៖ «ទណ្ឌកម្មត្រូវបែងចែកឲ្យច្បាស់ ហើយអនុវត្តតាមធម៌ មិនមែនតាមចិត្តចង់ឡើយ។ ការទប់ស្កាត់ដោយពាក្យរឹងមាំ និងពាក្យតឹងរ៉ឹង គឺជាទណ្ឌកម្មមួយ; ហើយទណ្ឌកម្មដែលទាមទារមាសច្រើន (ពិន័យធ្ងន់) ក៏ត្រូវបានកំណត់ដែរ»។
