Educational Q&A

Regular performance of śrāddha and pitṛ-yajña at an auspicious time (Kṛttikā-yoga), supported by proper Vedic household practice (establishing sacred fires) and continuity of lineage (with one’s son), is presented as dharmic conduct that yields freedom from illness-like affliction and mental agitation.

In Bhīṣma’s instruction on duties and religious observances, he describes a specific recommended practice—performing śrāddha during Kṛttikā-yoga after installing the sacred fires—and states the beneficial result: the practitioner becomes vigatajvara, free from fever/distress.
