Restraint through the Analysis of Karma and Time
इदं तु धार्तराष्ट्रस्थ श्रेयो मन्ये जनाधिप । इमामवस्थां सम्प्राप्तं यदसौ त्वां न पश्यति
idaṃ tu dhārtarāṣṭrastha śreyo manye janādhipa | imām avasthāṃ samprāptaṃ yad asau tvāṃ na paśyati ||
យុធិષ્ઠិរ បានមានព្រះបន្ទូលថា៖ «ប៉ុន្តែ ឱ អធិរាជនៃប្រជាជន! ខ្ញុំគិតថា នេះជាការល្អសម្រាប់ទុរយោធន កូនធ្រឹតរាស្ត្រ—ដែលគាត់បានដល់មរណភាព ដូច្នេះគាត់មិនបានឃើញព្រះអង្គស្ថិតក្នុងសភាពនេះឡើយ»
युधिछिर उवाच
Even amid enmity and war, Yudhiṣṭhira frames judgment in terms of śreyas (welfare) and compassion: he sees it as a mercy for Duryodhana not to witness the king’s fallen condition, highlighting restraint, empathy, and ethical reflection rather than triumphalism.
Yudhiṣṭhira addresses a king (janādhipa), remarking that Duryodhana—Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s son—has not seen the addressee in a pitiable condition. Yudhiṣṭhira interprets this absence as beneficial for Duryodhana, implying the scene involves a grievous or humiliating state following the conflict.
