आस्तीककथाप्रारम्भः — Beginning of the Āstīka Narrative

सनाम्नीं चोद्यतां भार्या गृह्लीयामिति तस्य हि । मनो निविष्टमभवज्जरत्कारोर्महात्मन:,उन महात्मा जरत्कारुका मन इस बातपर स्थिर हो गया था कि मेरे-जैसे नामवाली कन्या यदि उपलब्ध हो तो उसीको पत्नीरूपमें ग्रहण करूँ:
sanāmnīṁ codyatāṁ bhāryā gṛhlīyām iti tasya hi | mano niviṣṭam abhavaj jaratkāror mahātmanaḥ ||
សោណកបាននិយាយថា៖ ចិត្តរបស់មហាត្មា ជរាត្ការុ បានតាំងចិត្តមាំមួនលើរឿងនេះថា៖ «បើមានកញ្ញាដែលមាននាមដូចខ្ញុំ ត្រូវបានប្រគេនមក ខ្ញុំនឹងទទួលនាងជាភរិយា»។ ពាក្យនេះបង្ហាញការរឹតត្បិតដូចពាក្យសច្ចាប្រកាន់—ការរៀបការមិនមែនដើម្បីសុខសាន្ត ឬកិត្តិយសទេ ប៉ុន្តែជាកាតព្វកិច្ច ដែលទទួលយកតែពេលបំពេញលក្ខខណ្ឌសីលធម៌ជាក់លាក់។
