This verse explains that by the Lord’s own māyā, living beings become absorbed in mithunī-bhāva (male–female union), which keeps them engaged in worldly propagation rather than pure devotion.
In the context of Canto 6, Chapter 4, the teaching emphasizes how material desire redirects a person’s attention and resources away from worship of the Supreme and toward worldly aims, causing devotion and sacrifice to be neglected or misused.
Recognize how unchecked sensual obsession can dominate priorities; consciously protect time, energy, and resources for sādhana (hearing, chanting, worship) so that devotion is not “taken away” by distraction.
