Kali-yuga Dynasties and the Degradation of Kingship

tasya cāṣṭau bhaviṣyanti sumālya-pramukhāḥ sutāḥ ya imāṁ bhokṣyanti mahīṁ rājānaś ca śataṁ samāḥ
In Canto 12, Chapter 1, Śukadeva Gosvāmī lists coming royal lines and notes that a king will have eight sons led by Sumālya, who will rule the earth for a hundred years.
Śukadeva Gosvāmī speaks this verse to Mahārāja Parīkṣit while describing the future dynasties and rulers of Kali-yuga.
Worldly power and political succession are temporary; the Bhagavatam urges the listener to seek lasting shelter in devotion to the Lord rather than placing ultimate hope in changing rulers.
