It teaches that even a high birth cannot protect one from the bondage (pāśa) created by delusion and guru-apacāra; downfall into lower births follows, yet dharmic rites like śrāddha can become a channel for purification and the return of right knowledge, preparing the soul for Shiva’s grace.
In Shaiva tradition, honoring the guru is integral to approaching Saguna Shiva through Linga-worship, mantra, and ritual. Misconduct toward the guru obstructs access to Shiva’s upadeśa and devotion; restoration of jñāna through dharmic acts aligns the devotee again with Shiva-oriented sādhanā.
The verse highlights śrāddha as a corrective dharmic practice; as a Shaiva takeaway, perform śrāddha with faith and accompany it with repentance, guru-vandana, and steady japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” to reestablish right understanding.
