Cosmic Event: Samudra-manthana begins (Ocean of Milk churning preparation)
It marks the moment when opposing forces unite for a higher aim; in Shaiva understanding, such cooperation hints that worldly dualities (deva/asura) are ultimately resolved by turning toward the Supreme Lord, whose grace alone makes the “churning” of karma yield spiritual nectar.
The churning episode in Shaiva narration culminates in Shiva’s compassionate intervention (e.g., bearing the poison), revealing Saguna Shiva as the accessible Lord who protects devotees and sustains cosmic order—qualities contemplated in Linga worship.
The takeaway is steadiness and disciplined effort: practitioners may pair japa of the Panchakshara mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with calm, focused meditation, cultivating the inner “churning” that brings clarity and devotion.
