Gautama’s Vision of Śiva and the Teaching on Sin and Purification
śiva uvāca | dhanyo'si kṛtakṛtyo'si niṣpāpo'si sadā mune | etairduṣṭaiḥ kila tvaṃ ca cchalito'si khilātmabhiḥ
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
Śiva affirms the sage’s inner purity and spiritual merit (niṣpāpa, kṛtakṛtya) while also acknowledging that even the virtuous can be outwardly deceived; Shaiva teaching emphasizes discernment (viveka) and taking refuge in Pati (Śiva) beyond worldly manipulation.
As Saguna Śiva, the compassionate Lord directly speaks, protects, and corrects; Linga-worship similarly centers on approaching Śiva as the accessible Lord who purifies the devotee and restores right understanding when adharma and deceit arise.
Practice steady japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with bhasma/Tripuṇḍra and Rudrākṣa as supports for purity and protection, and cultivate calm discrimination before acting—so deceit does not disturb one’s dharma.
