Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Jyotirlinga: Mallikārjuna
Sthala Purana: After Śiva’s manifestation as a Jyotirliṅga at Śrīśaila, the liṅga became celebrated in all the three worlds as “Mallikārjuna,” signifying Śiva’s self-revealed presence for the uplift of beings.
Significance: Darśana of the Jyotirliṅga is held to confer both bhukti (worldly well-being) and the orientation toward mukti through Śiva’s grace.
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: nurturing
It declares the enduring fame of Śiva’s Liṅga manifestation as Mallikārjuna, affirming that when Śiva reveals Himself in a consecrated form for devotees, that sacred presence becomes a world-sustaining means of grace and liberation.
By naming the Liṅga as Śiva’s ‘one’ celebrated form, the verse supports Saguna-upāsanā: devotees approach the transcendent (Nirguṇa) Lord through the tangible, worshipable Liṅga that embodies His accessible compassion and power.
A practical takeaway is regular Liṅga-pūjā—abhisheka with water, bilva offerings, and japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” performed with devotion as a direct approach to Mallikārjuna’s grace.
