Methodical Explanation of the Meaning of Praṇava/Om
अन्यत्तु त्रितयं नाम्नामुपादानादिभेदतः । त्रिविधोपाधिरचनाच्छिव एव तु वर्तते
anyattu tritayaṃ nāmnāmupādānādibhedataḥ | trividhopādhiracanācchiva eva tu vartate
しかし、物質因などの差別によって区別される他の三つの名の群は、三種のウパーディ(upādhi・限定付帯)の構成から生起するにすぎない。真実には、その内に根底として住するのはただシヴァ(Śiva)一者である。
Lord Shiva (teaching a philosophical doctrine in Kailāsa-saṃhitā discourse)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Īśāna
It teaches that apparent differences in divine names and functions come from conditioning factors (upādhis), while the one supreme reality beneath all such distinctions is Shiva (Pati), the inner ground of liberation.
Saguna worship (including Linga worship) engages Shiva through name-and-form shaped by upādhis; the verse clarifies that these are valid approaches, yet the devotee should understand that the worshipped reality is Shiva alone, ultimately beyond all limitations.
Meditate on Shiva as the one consciousness present within all names and roles, using japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) to transcend limiting identifications and rest in Shiva as the substratum.
