Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Vrata-like bodily restraint (fasting, grooming/sexual restraint) disciplines the paśu and attenuates pāśa (bondage) through regulated conduct, preparing for Śiva-upāsanā and eventual anugraha.
Role: liberating
It teaches that Śiva-worship is strengthened by śauca (purity), upavāsa (fasting), and indriya-nigraha (sense-restraint), reducing pasha-like bonds so the devotee becomes fit for devotion and inner stillness.
By prescribing disciplined preparation—early rising, daily rites, fasting, and restraint—the verse frames Linga/Saguṇa-Śiva worship as a vowed practice where the body and senses are aligned to offer steadiness, reverence, and single-pointed bhakti.
Observe a fast (upavāsa), avoid grooming like shaving for the vow-period, and keep brahmacarya/sense-restraint—supporting focused japa (especially the Pañcākṣarī) and calmness for Śiva-pūjā.
