この短いインドラ讃歌は、凝縮されたソーマ招請であり、インドラの武勲――ディヴォダーサのためにシャンバラを屈服させ、石から「牛／光線」を解き放ち、寛大な施主に勝利の力を確立したこと――を想起する。各詩節は、副歌のような呼びかけ「これこそ汝のための、インドラよ、搾り出されたそのソーマである。飲め」によって転回し、讃嘆（stuti）を供物（havis）へと直結させる。目的は、インドラを搾汁の場へ招き、その昂揚（mada）を新たにし、祭主と施主に守護・勝利・豊穣を確保することにある。

यस्य त्यच्छम्बरं मदे दिवोदासाय रन्धयः । अयं स सोम इन्द्र ते सुतः पिब ॥
恍惚の酔いのうちに、ディヴォーダーサのためにかのシャンバラを屈せしめた汝よ——これぞ汝のために搾り出されたそのソーマ、インドラよ、飲め。

यस्य तीव्रसुतं मदं मध्यमन्तं च रक्षसे । अयं स सोम इन्द्र ते सुतः पिब ॥
鋭く搾られたソーマの酔い（マダ）を、その中ほども終わりも守護する汝よ——これぞ汝のために搾り出されたそのソーマ、インドラよ、飲め。

यस्य गा अन्तरश्मनो मदे दृळ्हा अवासृजः । अयं स सोम इन्द्र ते सुतः पिब ॥
恍惚の酔いのうちに、石の内より固く閉ざされた光の牝牛（光線）を解き放った汝よ——これぞ汝のために搾り出されたそのソーマ、インドラよ、飲め。

यस्य मन्दानो अन्धसो माघोनं दधिषे शवः । अयं स सोम इन्द्र ते सुतः पिब ॥
ソーマの精髄に歓喜して、施与豊かな者の力を据え置く汝よ。これこそ汝のための、インドラよ、搾り出されたソーマ—飲め。
